A Little Bit About King…

Bourbon Country’s Beal Street Blues Boy “King” represents the next generation of Bourbon Country Retrievers and is exactly what we envisioned when we paired Marcus with our foundation female, Socks.

A big, powerful, athletic male with a handsome blocky head, excellent structure, and an exceptional dark chocolate coat, King possesses the natural presence and confidence that immediately catches your attention. More importantly, he combines the intelligence, desire, and natural ability that we strive to produce in every generation.

King inherited many of the qualities that have made both of his parents exceptional. From Socks, he carries tremendous marking ability, trainability, and an eagerness to please. From Marcus, he inherited power, style, and the confidence to tackle the most demanding retrieves. The result is a young dog with tremendous natural talent and unlimited potential.

One of King’s greatest strengths is his love for the water. He attacks long swims with confidence, determination, and style, demonstrating the courage and endurance necessary to compete at the highest levels of the retriever game. Whether asked to carry a line across a large body of water or mark birds at significant distances, King consistently displays the kind of ability that cannot be taught—it is simply bred into him.

Although still early in his competitive career, King has already begun proving himself in Derby competition, earning a 3rd Place, 4th Place, and a JAM, while qualifying for the 2026 National Derby Championship. These early accomplishments are exciting indicators of what we believe is a very bright future.

King is more than a promising young retriever—he represents the future of our breeding program. As he continues to mature, we expect him to compete successfully at the highest levels while passing along the exceptional genetics, athleticism, intelligence, and temperament that define Bourbon Country Retrievers.
